Virginia CLE Requirements
Attorney Requirements
Virginia attorneys are required to complete 12 hours of CLE each year. At least 2 hours must be in the area of Ethics and Professionalism. Attorneys must earn the required MCLE credits by October 31st and report by December 15th each year.
Attorneys may carryover up to 12 hours of CLE credit to the following year.
Newly Admitted Attorneys
Newly admitted attorneys in Virginia must complete the "Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course" provided by the Virginia Bar within 12 months of becoming an active member.
Newly admitted attorneys are exempt from the 12 credit CLE requirement for the first reporting period in which they are admitted to practice.
Online Courses
Virginia attorneys must earn at least 4 hours of CLE credit from live events, including live webinars. Attorneys may earn up to 8 CLE credits through online on demand courses.
