Alaska CLE Requirements

Attorney Requirements

Alaska attorneys are required to complete 12 hours of CLE each year. At least 3 hours must be in the area of Ethics. Attorneys must earn the required MCLE credits by December 31st and report by February 1st each year.

Attorneys may carryover up to 12 hours of CLE credit to the following year.

In addition to the mandatory ethics CLE, the Alaska Supreme Court and Alaska Bar Association encourage all members to engage in Voluntary Continuing Legal Education (VCLE). Every active member of the Alaska Bar Association should complete at least nine credit hours per year of approved VCLE. Only members who complete at least nine hours of VCLE are eligible to participate in the Alaska Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service.

Newly Admitted Attorneys

Newly admitted attorneys must view a one hour ethics videotape prior to swearing in.

Online Courses

Alaska attorneys may view all 12 hours of CLE through online videos or webinars.
