School Discipline Training 2023

Why does School Expulsion matter and what can pro bono attorneys do about it? This course provides an overview of suspension and expulsion laws, and offers tips for advocating on behalf of students subject to school discipline proceedings. It also discussion special education rights in the school discipline process, and trends and special topics in school discipline.

Eviction Mediation Training

Sharpen your negotiation skills and learn how to represent tenants facing eviction in a Zoom mediation against a represented landlord in Santa Clara County. As a pro bono volunteer in this project, your advocacy will help vulnerable tenants stabilize their housing, reduce their financial obligations, and protect their credit. This training is presented by Law Foundation attorney Jane Wong, and should be viewed in conjunction with course materials. Security Deposit Pro Bono Project

Overview of security deposit law and the small claims court process to enable pro bono attorneys to assist clients who seek return of their security deposit from their landlord.

Name and Gender Marker Correction Pro Bono Program

In this course you will learn to: 1) Understand the difference between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. 2) Develop accurate language regarding the LGBTQ+ community. 3) Demonstrate considerations and approaches that will better serve LGBTQ+ clients. 4) Complete a request to waive court fees (Fee Waiver). 5) Fill out court forms to help minors or adults complete a name change, gender marker change, or both a name and gender marker change. 6) Advise clients on obtaining a Court Order and corrected ID documents. 7) Understand how correcting g your gender marker may impact the requirement to register for the Selective Service. The Name and Gender Marker Correction Pro Bono Program includes a video in two parts, instruction packets, a memo about the Selective Service, a memo about passports, copies of the slides, and the ID Please guide to correcting identity documents. During the first portion of the video you will need to reference the sample form packets found in the course materials: Adult Petition, One Parent Petition, and Two Parents Petition. Fee Waivers included in the sample packets are for individuals collecting public benefits under FW 001-5a. There is an additional sample packet for individuals petitioning under FW 001 5b and 5c. You will receive 1 hour of California MCLE Elimination of Bias credit
